HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A Wimauma pastor is charged with capital sexual battery after investigators say he admitted to performing sex acts on a girl under the age of eleven, 30 to 40 years ago.

Patrick H. Shiver, 72, is a practicing Pastor at the Casa De Dios church in Wimauma and has been a pastor at numerous churches in Hillsborough County, according to investigators.

During a controlled telephone call by HCSO between the victim and Patrick Shiver, Shiver admitted to performing sexual acts with the victim while she was under the age of eleven and sexual intercourse while she was between the ages of 14 and 17-years old. Detectives say the alleged acts happened in Hillsborough County.

Later during interviews with detectives, Patrick Shiver admitted to the allegations.

“We are going to pray for him. I imagine he did these things when he didn't know the Lord. So the church will be praying for him,” said Nehemias Velasquez who is pastor a Casa De Dios in Wimauma, where Shiver attended.

Velasquez tells me Shiver had the title of pastor but did not serve as a pastor at his church.

“He fooled all of us. He was a beautiful person,” said Velasquez.

Velasquez tells 8 On Your Side that Shiver came to the church several years ago and told him that he previously worked as a missionary. HCSO said Shiver worked at other Hillsborough County churches, although they did not have the names of those churches Wednesday night.

“He and his wife first started attending four years ago. They soon offered to help out with the church, and since then, they've been working very hard for us,” said Velasquez.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives arrested Shiver at his home without incident on Nov. 5. He was charged with one count of capital sexual battery and booked into the Orient Road Jail where he is being held with no bond.
