Dale Anderson, 56, is accused of sexually abusing a student while he worked for the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Anderson, who now lives in Somerset, was arrested Friday afternoon at a restaurant on Brownsboro Road.
Police said the abuse allegedly took place around 30 years ago, when the student was between 11 and 14 years old.
Anderson spent a dozen years at St. Raphael's parish in the upper Highlands neighborhood between 1981 and 1993 and also coached football at Trinity High School during that time.
In that time, police said Anderson sexually abused at least one student as a teacher.
According to the arrest citation, the victim disclosed sexual encounters with Anderson, which included oral sex, sodomy and sexual touching.
Police said the victim was between 11 and 14 when it happened.
The Archdiocese of Louisville released a statement Sunday afternoon:
“The Archdiocese learned today that a former teacher at St. Raphael Elementary School and coach at Trinity High School has been arrested for the sexual abuse of a minor. Mr. Philip Dale Anderson taught at St. Raphael School from 1981 to 1993 and also coached football at Trinity during that time. The Archdiocese has not received any reports of abuse by Mr. Anderson, and there were no indications in his file of any problems.
“As always, the Archdiocese will cooperate with the authorities as they investigate this situation. We encourage victims of sexual abuse to report their abuse to the police, and we hold all victims of abuse in our prayers.”
Anderson was released Friday on his own recognizance.
He's charged with first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and attempted sodomy.
Metro police continue to investigate.
