(WXYZ) - A Roman Catholic Archbishop with strong ties to Detroit is under investigation.
John Nienstedt was born here and served as a bishop in the area until 2001.
Nienstedt, now the Archbishop in St. Paul and Minneapolis is fighting accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct.
In a statement, he denies any wrongdoing and says it does not involve children.
He also said the allegations date back more than a decade, before he arrived in the twin cities.
He has asked for an independent investigation.
Meanwhile, the 7 Action News Investigators talked tonight with a twin cities attorney suing Nienstedt and the Archdiocese over allegations of child sex abuse.
He says his case likely brought these earlier allegations to light.
"There’s no doubt the scrutiny of the suit has brought some of this forth," says Jeff Anderson.
The Detroit Archdiocese issued a statement saying it doesn't comment on the internal matters of another diocese.
