On April 2, 2014, Archbishop John Nienstedt gave his deposition in the case of Doe #1, which is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson.
We offer the deposition in its entirety, as part of our renewed commitment to transparency. As you will notice, the Archbishop answered every question asked. The court pre-determined the length of the four hour deposition, and the Archbishop continued to answer questions past the time allotted. There was not a single question asked about Thomas Adamson and the allegations of abuse of Doe #1 in 1976-1977.

Deposition of Father Kevin McDonough
On April 16, 2014, Father Kevin McDonough was deposed in the Doe 1 case in St. Paul. The case is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson for allegations of abuse between 1976 and 1977.
We offer the deposition in its entirety as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure. As you will notice, Fr. McDonough answered every question asked. The court pre-determined the length of the six hour deposition.

Deposition of Andrew Eisenzimmer
On May 8, 2014, Andrew Eisenzimmer, who served the archdiocese as Chancellor for Civil Affairs between 2005 and 2012, was deposed in the Doe 1 case in St. Paul. The case is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson for allegations of abuse between 1976 and 1977. We offer the deposition as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure. However, selected portions were redacted—and others that were ordered sealed have been removed—to protect victims.

Deposition of Father Peter Laird
On May 12, 2014, Father Peter Laird, who served as the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis from late 2009 to late 2013, was deposed in the Doe 1 case in St. Paul. The case is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson for allegations of abuse between 1976 and 1977. We offer Father Laird’s deposition as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure. Please note that one section of the deposition is not posted because it is under seal by the court.

Deposition of Archbishop Harry Flynn
On May 14, 2014, Archbishop Harry Flynn, who served as archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis from September 8, 1995 to May 2, 2008, was deposed in the Doe 1 case in St. Paul. The case is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson for allegations of abuse between 1976 and 1977. We offer Archbishop Flynn’s deposition as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure. Please note that one section of the deposition is not posted because it is under seal by the court.

Deposition of Archbishop Robert Carlson
On May 23, 2014, Archbishop Robert Carlson, who serves as the archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, was deposed in the Doe 1 case in St. Paul. The case is a civil lawsuit against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the Diocese of Winona, and Thomas Adamson for allegations of abuse between 1976 and 1977.
Archbishop Carlson was a priest of Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis between 1970 and 1994, serving as chancellor from August 10, 1979 through July 1, 1987 and as auxiliary bishop from January 11, 1984 through February 21, 1994. We offer his deposition--of which selected portions were redacted to protect victims--as part of our renewed commitment to transparency and disclosure.
