Former Priest Guilty of Sex Charges

A former Catholic priest has been acquitted of all but three of 18 sex-related charges in Sarnia’s Superior Court. Justice Joseph Donohue found 57-year-old Gabriele DelBianco guilty of one count of gross indecency and two counts of sexual assault. He found DelBianco not guilty of various other charges including threatening death/bodily harm. The charges relate to incidents involving four teenage girls during the 1980?s. Justice Donohue says the historical nature of the case made it difficult and he expressed concern about reliability of evidence as reasoning for acquitting the accused on several charges. DelBianco left the priesthood in 1996 after serving at churches in Wallaceburg and Windsor. DelBianco is out of custody awaiting a sentencing hearing May 14th at 10am in Superior Court.
