A member of the Catholic Church tells 5 EYEWITNESS
NEWS she reported possible abuse of young boys by a priest to
Archdiocese officials and nothing was done about.
Mary Tacheny attended the Church of the Presentation
of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Maplewood and witnessed a priest
who had "crossed boundaries" with young boys, she said.
"I reported the incidents I saw to Father Kevin
McDonough, and he lied to me about conducting an investigation
into it," Tacheny said. Father McDonough, at the time, was the
second-in-command at the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and
Minneapolis.
Tacheny says Father McDonough told her, "There is no
smoking gun and there is nothing more to do with this
investigation."
Tacheny says she approached the people Father
McDonough told her he had spoken to and says "not one of them
knew what I was talking about. They told me Father McDonough had
never talked to them about possible abuse by a priest at the
Church.
Tacheny says Father McDonough "lied and lied and lied
to me. He lied right to may face about conducting the
investigation." Tacheny recently brought her information about
Father McDonough's role in the investigation to St. Paul Police.
The Archdiocese did not want to comment on our story,
but did say it encourages anyone with information about possible
child abuse to come forward and contact law enforcement.
