Amanda Iles, a former teacher at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, has been charged with rape of a 14-year-old boy while she was an employee at the school.
Between June 11 and July 14, 2013, Iles allegedly engaged in sexual encounters with the boy in Eastchester, according to a Westchester District Attorney release.
Iles reportedly knew the boy was a student at the school. The boy's parents became aware of the encounters and contacted Yonkers police.
“As a teacher, this defendant was in a position of trust and authority," District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in the statement. "In becoming involved with a student incapable of consent, she abused that privilege."
Iles returned from California where she was living and surrendered to Eastchester police on Wednesday morning.
She was officially charged with second-degree rape, a Class-D felony. Bail was set at $75,000 bond over $25,000 cash.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 4. She faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
Archbishop Stepinac said in a statement on Wednesday that the alleged relationship happened after Iles resigned her position.
