THE Court of Criminal Appeal has reserved judgment in the case of former priest Tony Walsh, who is appealing against separate sentences imposed for the rape and sexual abuse of young boys.

Walsh (59), formerly of North Circular Road, Dublin, who was known as the 'Singing Priest' for his role in a travelling all-priest vocal group before he was defrocked, is serving a 16-year sentence imposed on him in 2010 for the rape and abuse of three schoolboys.

Last month, Walsh had 15 months added to this sentence for abusing two other boys.

ACROBAT FALLS TO HER DEATH

Audience members in Las Vegas say they realised a Cirque du Soleil acrobat's fall was an accident when they heard the cries of the performer and other cast members.

Visitor Dan Mosqueda said the woman was being hoisted up the side of the stage by a wire when she plummeted into an open pit below the performers.

31-year-old Sarah Guillot-Guyard was pronounced dead on Saturday night at a hospital after falling about 50ft during a production of Ka at the MGM Grand.

LADY LIBERTY RETURNS TO WORK

Months after Superstorm Sandy swamped her little island, the Statue of Liberty will finally welcome visitors again.

Sandy made landfall one day after the statue's 126th birthday. The storm flooded most of Liberty Island in New York Harbour. Lady Liberty herself was spared, but the surrounding grounds took a beating.

Railings broke, docks and paving stones were torn up and buildings were flooded.

The storm destroyed boilers, sewage pumps and electrical systems.
