As individuals, families and parishes, our mission as the Diocese of Worcester is to respond joyfully to Christ’s call to become more fully the People of God.
Though imperfect, we are a blessed people striving to participate in Christ’s mission of reaching out to all. Therefore, we accept the Gospel challenge, which calls us to bring another to a deeper knowledge and love of God.
Since God calls us to live in community in the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves in this time and place to becoming a prayerful and faith-filled Church that truly reflects the glory of God.

Statement from Bishop Robert J. McManus, Bishop of Worcester regarding arrest in Narragansett, RI
“On Saturday evening, May 4, I made a terrible error in judgment by driving after having consumed alcohol with dinner. There is no excuse for the mistake I made, only a commitment to make amends and accept the consequences of my action. More importantly, I ask forgiveness from the good people whom I serve, as well as my family and friends, in the Diocese of Worcester and the Diocese of Providence.”

Statement by Bishop McManus on Slot Parlors in Worcester
“While people have a right to make their own decisions regarding gambling legally with their money, rights must be exercised in relation to our responsibilities to family, friends and our community. Moreover, although both rich and poor have an equal right to gamble, the burden on their personal economics in not equitable, as lower income gamblers will often spend a larger percentage of their income on gambling and on the associated taxes. The community will not have the resources to deal with those who will be harmed as a result of legalized gambling. The pending social problems will become even more dramatic if slot parlors are situated in the neighborhood which is home to families who will be most vulnerable to the harm caused by gambling and to family-owned, small businesses in Worcester.”
“Faith-based and non-profit organizations have a right and a duty to speak out now. I encourage the leaders of the City of Worcester not to approve the establishment of slot parlors.” April 18, 2013, WORCESTER, MA
