Corinth police arrested the lead pastor of The Church of Corinth on Wednesday on sex-related charges, investigators said.

The Rev. Jeffrey Dale Williams, 47, was charged with attempted sexual performance of a child, a third-degree felony, police said.

Capt. Greg Wilkerson said the alleged incident took place at the victim’s home on March 30 and the investigation is continuing.

“We have been working on the case since April 3, and there is potential there may be more victims,” Wilkerson said.

Williams, according to police, is accused of attempting to persuade a child younger than age 18 to remove her clothing and show herself naked.

Wilkerson said the victim is uninjured and in a safe place.

Third-degree felonies are punishable by two to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000, according to the Texas Penal Code.

Chris Medley, youth pastor for the church, said the church is not commenting until further investigation takes place.

Williams has been serving at the church, 1301 Tower Ridge Drive, since it opened in 1999, according to the church’s Facebook page.

Calls to Williams’ home were not answered.

Investigators are available to speak with anyone who may have knowledge of this or any other alleged crime involving Williams.

If there are additional alleged victims or witnesses, they are urged to call the Corinth Police Department at 940-498-2017.

Williams, police said, does not have any past criminal history.

As of press time Wednesday, Williams was awaiting arraignment at the Denton County Jail.
