Two men affiliated with the Church of the End Times, a nondenominational church at 19 Industrial Drive that has been the subject of controversy over the past year, were in Uxbridge District Court recently on separate charges.

Dennis H. Stanley, 36, of 41 Murphy's Way was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of violating an abuse prevention order obtained by his estranged wife, Beth Ellen Merrill Stanley. He was released on personal recognizance.

Mr. Stanley, who co-founded the church with his brother David H. Stanley, 51 Murphy's Way, and owns the Driveways Corp. paving business with his brother, located at the same address as the church, is prohibited from coming within 100 yards of Ms. Stanley or their home until the order expires Oct. 4.

According to court documents, neighbor Susan Dalpe filed a statement and photographs with police indicating that she saw Dennis Stanley enter and exit his brother David's house, which is less than 100 yards from Ms. Stanley's house, on April 14.

“Because of the bizarre behavior their families have shown in the past, such as young girls who are not relatives living in the household, exorcisms, vulgarity ... you can see how I can feel uncomfortable with what I call bizarre behaviors,” Ms. Dalpe wrote. “It is very possible that Dennis is back to living at David's house because all the bottom windows are now covered throughout the day and night. They also have many young women living there as well.”

Dennis was acquitted by a jury in January of violating the restraining order last October.

In a separate incident, Church of the End Times member George F. Drury, 42, 6 Highland St., Woonsocket, R.I., was arraigned April 19 on charges of disturbing the peace and being an unlicensed transient vendor after several residents complained he was trying to sell meat from the back of his truck.

He was released on $500 cash bail.

According to the police report, officers responded to calls on April 18 from residents who were “alarmed that an unknown individual approached their houses.”

When they confronted Mr. Drury in the white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck described by residents, he showed police a Rhode Island peddler's license, expired in 2009, for Gourmet Delight in Woonsocket. He did not have a Massachusetts peddler's license.

Police also discovered the frozen meat was in a cooler with a block of ice to keep it cold, but there was no freezer unit to maintain the proper temperature.

Both men are scheduled to return to court June 12 for pretrial conferences.

Interim Police Chief Peter B. Emerick said there has been little activity at the Church of the End Times since the first of the year, which he attributed to the failed prediction of pastor David and Dennis Stanley that the world would end in December — a popular misinterpretation of dates on one of the Mayan calendars.

He said the department is involved in continuing investigations of activities of the church and the business.
