The former Canberra and Goulburn archbishop Mark Coleridge has been appointed to the Truth Justice and Healing Council, which will manage the Catholic Church’s work with the royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse.

Archbishop Coleridge, now the Archbishop of Brisbane, is one of 13 members announced by president of the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference Archbishop Denis Hart and chair of Catholic Religious Australia Sr Annette Cunliffe, RSC.

Prof Greg Craven, vice-chancellor of Australian Catholic University, is also on the council, which will be chaired by Justice Barry O’Keefe, a former chief judge of the NSW Supreme Court and once a commissioner on the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.

The other council members are retired WA Children’s Court magistrate Dr Sue Gordon; child policy expert and University of WA academic Prof Maria Harries; Sane Australia chief executive officer Mr Jack Heath; Monash University social work academic and former worker in children’s court dispute resolution Assoc Prof Rosemary Sheehan; former SA government minister (including community welfare and children’s services) Hon Greg Crafter, OA; chair of Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans and expert in support for women who have experienced clerical sex abuse Sr Maree Marsh, CSB; Newcastle-Maitland’s Bishop Bill Wright; Bank of Melbourne and Nestle Australia chairwoman Ms Elizabeth Proust, AO; Melbourne Catholic Education Office executive director Mr Stephen Elder; and a child and adolescent psychiatrist with expertise in the consequences of childhood trauma and abuse, Dr Marian Sullivan.
