KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -
On Monday, Kilgore Police Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodlawn Street in Kilgore and arrested Glenn Douglas Barton, 62 , of Kilgore. Barton was charged with an outstanding Rusk County warrant of arrest for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, a felony grade offense.
Barton stood before a Kilgore judge Monday night and took one last look into the crowd before being taken to the Rusk County Jail.
According to the Kilgore Police Department, Barton is a minister at Calvary Way Pentecostal Church in Kilgore.
People in Kilgore say they can't believe the news of his arrest.
"People are going to be shocked, it's horrible. Being a mother, I can't even imagine going through that," says Kyla Trich, a Kilgore community member.
The arrest and warrant stems from an ongoing investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kilgore Police Department. This investigation was initiated after Kilgore Police Investigators received a report two weeks ago alleging Mr. Barton sexually assaulted a child. The alleged sexual abuse occurred between 2009 and 2013.
Barton was arrested near the Calvary Way Pentecostal Church. Members of the church say they have no comment on Barton's arrest.
There is a Calvary Way Daycare right next to the church. People in the daycare say they also have no comment on the arrest.
Frances Brooks works in Kilgore and says, when word spreads about the charge against Barton, people will be angry, "They'll be as mad as me. If they have any morals they'll be as mad as I am."
Trich says she feels for the alleged victim's family, "I'll just keep the family in my prayers."
Barton's bond is set at $50,000.
Currently this investigation has revealed no other victims; however, the investigation is still ongoing.
