Pope Benedict was pushed towards resignation by a shocking report on Vatican infighting that was handed to him at the end of last year, according to the Italian magazine Panorama. The voluminous document was the second instalment of a report prepared by a committee of three cardinals into the source of leaks of sensitive Vatican papers blamed on the Pope’s butler, Paolo Gabriele.
