Former Altar Boys Recall Being Touched by Priest

VICTORIA – Day two in the trial of a former priest charged with sexually abusing children picked up where Monday left off.

Former St. Joseph the Worker altar boy, Chris Duggan, continued his testimony telling the court he knew Jacobs well. The 26-year-old testified that he witnessed contact between Jacobs and altar boys but was not a victim of sexual abuse.

Duggan also told the court that Jacobs would invite altar boys back to the rectory basement for movie nights after mass.

Following Duggan, Jacobs first accuser took the stand.

His identity is under a publication ban.

Also a former altar boy at St. Joseph the Worker church, the accuser told the court how, on more than one occasion, Jacobs allegedly touched him sexually.

The complainant told the court he kept the incidents secret for years because he was scared and confused.

He testified, “we’re taught in school that priests are people you trust, that they are good people.”

Jacobs is charged with sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference with a person under the age of fourteen, and sexual touching.

In the coming days the court is expected to hear from the other two complainants.
