EUGENE, Ore. -- One of the 15 most wanted fugitives in the United States is suspected to be hiding in Eugene, the U.S. Marshals Service said Friday.
Frederick Cecil McLean is a fugitive child molester who fled the San Diego area in 2004-05. The USMS said he molested dozens of children over a 20 year period while in California, using his position in the Jehovah's witness Church to find victims.
Investigators found evidence that 54-year-old McLean may be hiding in the Eugene area. U.S. Marshal Service spokesperson Thomas Maranda added that he might be living under an assumed identity.
"In 2005 he did some business dealings with some people in the Oregon-area." Maranda said. "One specific item was that he sent a letter to his family that had been post-marked from Eugene."
The USMS said that they are 'concerned he has resumed his predatory ways' and might be looking for more victims in the Eugene area. Officials said that McLean could be armed should be considered dangerous.
According to investigators, McLean gains his victims trust before he molests them. The USMS said that one victim estimates McLean molested her over 100 times.
McLean was described as a white male, 5'11" tall and weighing around 170 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Authorities said that he may have altered his appearance since fleeing San Diego.
McLean was also known for being a very intelligent and methodical person. He is reported to plan his actions meticulously.
- Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call (541) 465-6701.
The Marshal's service asked the public to help in finding McLean and has offered a $25,000 reward for any information leading to McLean's arrest.
A San Diego Superior Court charged McLean in January of 2005 of four counts of child molestation and one count of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.
McLean was last known to be driving a small, dark colored pickup truck.
Before he left the San Diego area McLean was a self-employed auto mechanic that specialized in vintage Formula 1 race cars. He also had a 1955 Chevy with California licence plate 4WQH018.
