Centerville Man Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Police have arrested a Centerville man on child sex abuse charges.

Timothy William Bothell, 43, was arrested Thursday by a Centerville police detective and booked into Davis County Jail on two first degree felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and four counts of Class A misdemeanor charges of lewdness involving a child.

Bothell served on a local Stake High Council for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time of his arrest and he was also employed by the LDS Church, the Centerville Police Department said in a news release late Friday night.

There are two female victims in this case, ages 13 and 11 and both friends of the Bothel family, according to police. The alleged assaults and lewdness took place at Bothell’s home, beginning around Christmas of 2011, according to the news release.

Bothell was confronted by his wife last week and he reportedly admitted to inappropriate sexual contact with at least one of the victims, the news release says.

Bothell contacted state Child Protective Services who then contacted Centerville Police, the news release states. Centerville Police started the investigation on Monday.

Both victims were interviewed at the Children’s Justice Center during the week and Bothell was interviewed Thursday, when he admitted to the charges. He was booked into jail after the interview.

Bothell reportedly touched the genitals of the 13-year-old while she slept at his home around Christmas time, according to police.

Shortly after that Bothell is said to have placed his penis in the same 13-year-old girl’s hand while she slept. The girl reportedly woke up as this was occurring, said police.

Both girls say that Bothell exposed his genitals to them on several different occasions and they were able to give specific information on four separate incidents, police said. One of the victims said she has seen Bothell naked approximately 12 different times, according to the news release. Bothell admits to accidently exposing himself to the girls eight times, police said.

The aggravated charge is alleged because Bothell holds a position of trust in relationship to the victims.
