Former Pastor Makes Court Appearance

Jeremy Caraway was back in Harlan Circuit Court on Thursday. Caraway, 37, of Loyall, is awaiting trial on multiple charges including two counts of second-degree rape. The state has filed a motion to amend Caraway’s bond conditions to include he stay away from children with the exception of immediate family. Judge James Bowling inquired about the status of the state’s case. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jason Jackson told Bowling the state is “waiting for the lab analysis.” Jackson pointed out in a later interview the state believed the bond amendment was a necessary step after Caraway’s wife had allegedly attempted to offer daycare services to children. According to the indictment, Caraway engaged in two counts of sexual intercourse with another person who was less the 14 years old. The indictment also states Caraway committed two counts of second-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and one count of use of electronic communications systems to procure a minor to commit a sexual offense. All offenses allegedly occurred during May of last year. Previous Enterprise reports state Caraway was working as pastor of the Loyall Church of God when he was arrested. The alleged victim was a member of Caraway’s congregation. Bowling granted the state’s motion to amend Caraway’s bond to include the condition that he stay away from children except for his immediate family. In other court activity: * Jamie Johnson, 36, of Coldiron, was sentenced to five years in prison on a charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. * David Lewis, 30, of Middlesboro, was sentenced on the Commonwealth’s recommendation to six years in prison on charges of third-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking. Lewis received five years on the burglary charge and one year on the theft charge, which were to be served consecutively. Restitution in the amount of $6,400 was also ordered. * Kimberly Johnson, 45, of Loyall, was granted five years probation on the state’s recommendation on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and theft by deception including cold checks. Johnson was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $105. Reach Joe P.
