A former youth program volunteer at a Santa Fe Catholic church who pleaded guilty last year to a felony sex charge faces new sex abuse indictments.

Anthony J. Martinez, 36, was indicted last week on three counts of criminal sexual penetration — rape — of a child under 13 years old.

State Police Lt. Robert McDonald said the latest charges, like the earlier ones, stem from Martinez’s work with the youth ministry program at Santa Maria de la Paz Community church.

The victim was 11 years old when he was assaulted by Martinez in 2007, McDonald said.

In August 2011, Martinez’s sentencing on prior charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor was delayed pending Martinez’s completion of a treatment program for sex offenders. As part of a plea deal, a CSP count and other charges against Martinez were dropped last year.

In the earlier case, two 15-year-old boys were the victims. One told police that Martinez performed a sex act on him and in exchange Martinez bought him a cellphone. Martinez admitted masturbating with the other boy and making alcohol available to the teens. The crimes in that case took place between 2008 and 2010.

McDonald said Martinez is still in the treatment program at Las Vegas, N.M.
