Rabbi Pleads Guilty to Sexually Abusing 3 Boys

Rabbi Stanley Levitt has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three children in the 1970s, the Boston Globe reports. Levitt’s trial was about to begin when entered his guilty plea today. Levitt will be sentenced tomorrow. The abuse took place in the 1970s while Levitt was teaching at Maimonides day school in Brookline, Massachusetts. Levitt is now 66-years-old. He resides in the Philadelphia area. Levitt molested one of the victims in a Boston hospital room while he was hospitalized after an accident. The second and third victims were sexually assaulted at Levitt's Boston area home. All of the victims were in sixth grade when they were assaulted. Levitt was for a time part of the Chabad community in N.E. Philadelphia. Rumors and complaints that Levitt was abusing children there were common during that time, but the head of Chabad in Eastern Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., Rabbi Avraham Shemtov refused to get involved and did not notify police, allegedly telling people who complained about Levitt that he refused to get involved with rumors. Much of the alleged abuse in Philadelphia allegedly took place in Shemtov’s synagogue. Shemtov is now the second-in-command for Chabad’s internationally. Levitt also spent a significant amount of time in Baltimore, where he now lives, and may have victims there as well, sources have told FailedMessiah.com.
