An Enumclaw man was formally charged Friday with raping a young girl while he served as the assistant pastor of a local church.
The alleged assaults occurred in 2005 when the suspect, Malcolm John Fraser, was 32 and the victim was 10.
According to charging documents, the victim, who is now 17, came forward Monday and reported to Enumclaw police that Fraser had repeatedly raped her while he and his wife were staying with her family from 2005 to 2006. Fraser is the assistant pastor at the non-denominational South Sound Doctrine Church.
Enumclaw police detective Grant McCall said the victim told him Fraser came into her room late at night more than 20 times while staying with her family. Fraser would allegedly hold the victim’s mouth shut while forcing her to perform various sexual acts.
“I’m in shock. I’m scared for other children particularly my own,” resident Ailen Dean said Friday.
Dean was raised in the Sound Doctrine Church, a parish many in the Enumclaw community consider a cult, but Dean left years ago.
“Someone who is a monster like this and rapes children, they’re not just going to stop at one,” said Dean’s wife, Olianna.
The Deans are concerned because Ailen’s ex-wife still belongs to the church and lived with Fraser for five years. Dean worries his two children may have been abused, too.
“I talked to my daughter and she was very skittish, very fidgety. We believe she is a victim. I know my daughter well enough that I know when she’s lying and when she’s not,” said Dean.
Dean wants police to further investigate the case and worries for the safety of other children.
“Now that he’s posted bail, he has contact he wants with my kids or any other kids in the church and that’s frightening,” said Dean.
Fraser will be arraigned in King County Court on April 5.
On Tuesday, the day after the victim came forward to report the abuse, detectives responded to a Christian book publishing office associated with the South Sound Doctrine Church and placed Fraser under arrest.
According to McCall, Fraser made no comments during questioning other than asking to have a lawyer present.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg charged Fraser with two first-degree counts of rape of a child.
Fraser was born in Scotland, but has been living in the United States since 2000. He told detectives he has been a U.S. citizen since 2010.
