Eldora Man Charged with Sex Abuse Wants Evidence Suppressed

A 67-year-old Eldora resident would like to suppress evidence related to his arrest for allegedly having a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old he met online. Dennis Brown, a pastor, is charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. He was arrested at his summer residence in Eldora in July and taken to the Bremer County Jail. Brown also has a home in Verona, Va. According to authorities, Brown performed a sex act with the victim in May after allegedly making a connection on the Internet. He admitted meeting the teenager in Waverly, according to court documents. Waverly officers took a report from the victim's family, suggesting the teenager had made a sexual encounter with an adult male. The victim subsequently confirmed the allegation. Judge Chris Foy approved a search warrant for Brown's home in Eldora, and authorities reportedly recovered information in a digital format. Brown argues the "warrant was not supported by information sufficient to constitute probable cause." He claims the witness never alleged any misconduct took place at that residence, and he requests items recovered be ruled inadmissible in court. A hearing on the issue is scheduled Feb. 6 in the Bremer County Courthouse. Kevin Ingalls of Cedar Falls represents Brown. The court initially set bond for Brown at $50,000 but following a hearing Aug. 1 the amount was reduced to $20,000.
