Victims" Group Must Reveal Records in Priest Case Associated Press December 30, 2011 http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gi7V3VvaQHD7Hkmqk28YllgdgODQ?docId=5a68a043a9fe4a879bc2f96994c4d00d Advocates for victims of clergy sex abuse are being ordered to disclose years of records to defense lawyers in the case of an accused priest. A county judge in Missouri says lawyers for the accused man have a right to the documents from the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests. SNAP says the disclosure order is so broad it could involve sensitive communication with victims in other cases. The group has appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court. The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by a man who says a priest molested him. Lawyers for the priest say the accuser's attorney violated a judge's gag order by giving case details to the national group. The Catholic sex abuse scandal erupted in 2002. |
