6 a.m.: Jose Feliciano arrives at work at St. Patrick R. C. Church in Chatham for his custodial job.

8 a.m.: Former co-worker John Bongo visits Feliciano. At trial, Bongo describes his friend as upbeat, his “usual self.”

9:45 a.m.: Police find this time notation in Hinds’ day diary after his death. It indicates the priest planned to meet with Feliciano at this time to terminate him as of Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

Noon: Parish volunteer sees Feliciano at work and describes him at trial as morose and looking like “the weight of the world” was on his shoulders.

4:30 p.m.: Feliciano tells a co-worker he’s in a rush and has to leave work.

5 p.m.: Feliciano, admittedly, is in the rectory stabbing Hinds to death over his firing.

5:24 p.m.: State Police receive a 911 call from Hinds’ cell phone that is cut off. Dispatcher calls back and gets Feliciano, who says there is no emergency.

6-9 p.m.: Feliciano disposes of bloody rags, towels and the priest’s cell phone near his home in Easton, Pa.

Oct. 23, 2009:

8 a.m.: Hinds’ body is found in the rectory when he fails to appear to say morning mass. Feliciano administers half-hearted CPR and, according to a witness, wails: “What could have happened to Father Ed!” Feliciano is taken to Morristown Medical Center because of elevated blood pressure.

Throughout Oct. 23: Investigators trace Hinds’ cell phone to Easton, Pa., and retrieve evidence of the crime near Feliciano’s home.

Oct. 24, 2009:

10 a.m. into the afternoon: Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Capt. Jeffrey Paul interviews Feliciano at hospital. After initially denying any involvement, Feliciano confesses to the homicide both on audio and videotape.
