A former pastor in western Kentucky who was convicted of sexually abusing a minor under 12 will serve more prison time because of new sexual abuse charges.

Three new charges were brought against 50-year-old Robert Meredith last week in Calloway County.

Meredith, former pastor at Green Plain Church of Christ in Hazel, was first charged in August for allegedly abusing a child during a sleep-over. The Ledger & Times reported that last week he reached a plea deal with prosecutors, who combined the three new charges into one count of first-degree sexual abuse (http://bit.ly/v7YBbB).

The new conviction tacks on four years to the eight-year sentence Meredith is already serving.

In court last week, Meredith apologized and requested to be transported immediately to prison so he could begin sex offender treatment.
