THE priest at the centre of the unpublished chapter of the Cloyne Report is no longer in ministry.

The man -- referred to by the pseudonym 'Fr Ronat' -- was also mentioned in the hard-hitting report by the National Board for the Safeguarding of Children (NBSC). That study -- compiled for the church's own child-protection watchdog body -- caused a sensation when it was released in 2008.

Within weeks, the then Bishop of Cloyne, Dr John Magee, agreed to step back from diocesan duties in order to assist Judge Yvonne Murphy's investigation.

She was asked by the then government to add the Cork diocese to her ongoing probe into the handling of clerical-abuse complaints.

The NBSC report simply referred to 'Fr Ronat' by a single letter -- but the cleric then became the primary focus of the largest chapter in Judge Murphy's report.

Pseudonym

For legal reasons, that section -- chapter 9 -- was withheld from publication in the Cloyne Report on July 13 last. It required High Court approval to be released -- and its 42 pages will now be published in full by the Department of Justice on Monday.

'Fr Ronat' continues to live in Ireland. He has never been convicted in relation to a child-abuse matter.

Last night, one complainant -- who was not involved in the events of chapter nine -- said it was critical that the full Cloyne Report be published.

"The whole report needs to be published -- so the whole truth can be told," they said.
