Head of Religious Order Is Reported to Be Concerned over Conflict of Interest Ealing Today December 16, 2011 http://www.ealingtoday.co.uk/default.asp?section=info&page=eaabbey001.htm The Times has reported that the head of England's Benedictine order has offered to resign over concerns of a "conflict of interest" in the investigation into abuse at the hands of Ealing Abbey clerics. Father Richard Yeo is a member of the team leading the inquiry into the historic allegations of child abuse at St Benedict's school. Known as the Apostolic Visitation' the inquiry was ordered directly from Rome to investigate allegations spanning more than 40 years. An independent inquiry by Lord Carlile of Berriew recommended the governors of St Benedict's be independent from the Abbey and included stripping the Monks of their role in running the school. At the start of his report, Lord Carlile also expressed his disappointment at Father Yeo failing to act earlier to review schools the Benedictine order managed. He also added the Vatican's decision to appoint Yeo to the Apostolic Visitation was "foolish". |
