Ex-Priest James Donaghy Guilty of Sexual Abuse of Two Men

The case is being heard at Belfast Crown Court

A former priest has been found guilty of the sexual abuse of two men.

James Donaghy, 53, from Lady Wallace Drive in Lisburn, has been found guilty on five charges.

These include the indecent assauit of a former colleague Fr Patrick McCafferty and the indecent assault and serious sexual assault of former altar boy James Doherty.

The jury is now considering majority verdicts on 21 further charges.

These include assaults against an alleged third victim.

The charges against Donaghy relate to a period between June 1983 and December 2000.

He has always denied the charges.

Donaghy ministered most recently in Ballyholme in County Down. He stepped down from the priesthood in 2004.
