GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A former pastor pleaded guilty on Monday in Kent County to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree.

46-year-old Rev. Tedd Butler, a former pastor at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walker, pleaded guilty during a proceeding that lasted only about 15 minutes at the Kent County Courthouse.

Butler admitted that he touched a boy under the age of 13 on the backside with sexual intent while he was a staff member at Landmark Baptist Church in Algoma Township. He had met the boy at a Sunday school program.

The guilty plea is part of a plea agreement with prosecutors in two counties. Butler is expected to plead guilty to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Ottawa County on Tuesday.

Two other counts in Kent County were dropped as part of the plea deal. Also, as part of the plea deal, the Kent County judge will not be able to sentence Butler to anything more than the sentence he recieves in Ottawa County.

The most serious charge, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, was dropped altogether as part of the deal.

Butler is currently out of jail on bond.

He declined to comment to 24 Hour News 8 after the hearing.
