Victims of Abuse at Dutch School Get Damages Radio Netherlands December 10, 2011 http://www.rnw.nl/africa/bulletin/victims-abuse-dutch-school-get-damages Twenty-one victims of child sexual abuse by Roman Catholic clergy in the Netherlands have agreed on the amount of damages they will receive from the Salesian Society, the order to which the clergy belonged. The agreement was announced by the JvDR steering committee which has been negotiating with the Salesians on behalf of the victims who are aged from 45 to 75. The abuse occurred at the Don Rua boarding school in’s-Heerenberg in the east of the Netherlands. The amounts each of the victims will receive vary, but will not exceed 100,000 euros. The awards conform to the guidelines laid down by the Lindenbergh Commission which investigated the legal aspects of the church sexual abuse scandals in the Netherlands. |
