Voice from the Desert advocates for the protection of children, educates the public about clergy sexual abuse and cover-ups, and works for healing and justice for abuse victims/survivors. Since 2006, we have published more than 10,000 news and opinion posts on the Voice from the Desert blog. These posts include “reprints” from the media, my own opinion pieces, and news about and from abuse victims/survivors, survivor advocates, reform organizations, and individuals. By giving voice to the voiceless and promoting the gospel values of compassion, truth, and justice, Voice from the Desert contributes to worldwide grassroots efforts that boost public education about childhood sexual abuse and call for substantive reform in the Roman Catholic Church and society in general. Send the Bishops a Message urges Catholics to reduce or selectively withhold monetary contributions to the church until substantive changes have been implemented to help victims/survivors, protect children, prosecute predators, and ensure accountability and transparency. Send the Bishops a Message organizes annual Peter’s Pence collection protests urging Mass-going Catholics to donate to the pope just one symbolic penny on Peter’s Pence papal collection Sunday in June, and to redirect the rest of their usual charitable giving to organizations that help clergy sexual abuse survivors and/or protect children.
