Two Hilltop Baptist Church employees say they were fired for following the law and telling authorities about a fellow teacher’s sexual relationship with a student. Now, court documents show they’re suing for wrongful termination.

According to the document obtained Friday by KKTV 11 News, Laurie and Dustin Sutton learned about the relationship between teacher Terah Rawlings and the 15-year-old student. Laurie was a math teacher at the time and Dustin was a volunteer coach.

They took the information about Rawlings to Wayne Knight, who was Hilltop’s Pastor and Superintendent in addition to being Rawlings’ uncle. Next, they took the information to the authorities.

In January, the court documents say, the Suttons were fired by the school’s, Principal Jan Ocvirk.

A grand jury has indicted Terah Rawlings on the charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Jan Ocvirk, Wayne and Raymond Knight are charged with failure to report.

KKTV tried contacting the Suttons about their allegations, but were unable to reach the couple at the time of this story.
