The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests says they're "disappointed and shocked" Phoenix Catholic Charities is honoring retired Bishop Thomas O'Brien.
SNAP is asking Catholic Charities to rescind the honor.
In 2002, Bishop O'Brien was accused of covering up sexual abuse cases in the Diocese.
During his time as bishop, O'Brien was also convicted in a deadly hit-and-run accident. He was ordered community service for the crime.
O'Brien, who grew up in Indianapolis and attended St. Meinrad Seminary in southern Indiana before he was ordained a priest in 1961, resigned as head of the Phoenix Diocese within days of the fatal accident. He's believed to be the first Roman Catholic bishop in U.S. history to be convicted of a felony.
