The Church has brought it on themselves with all the child sex abuse problems and the cover-ups.” The Irish government’s decision announced late on Thursday to close its embassy to the Holy See has revived a bitter public debate on the Catholic Church’s handling of clerical child sex abuse cases and the wider question of church-state relations.
