Parish priest of St John Vianney Church in Clayhall Fr Jeba Marshall had been accused of the offences in relation to a teenage boy. The two week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court saw the jury fail to reach a verdict on two counts of sexual activity with a child. Fr Marshall had earlier been cleared on two other counts of sexual activity with a child. "Fr Jeba Marshall has been acquitted of two safeguarding charges at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The jury was not able to reach a decision on two other charges. The Crown has subsequently decided that there will be no retrial," a statement from the diocese read. "Fr Jeba has not been found guilty of any indictment. "The diocese co-operated fully with the police in all aspects of this case and will continue to assist the police and other agencies as necessary. The diocese has comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures in place and is fully committed to the safety and welfare of children and vulnerable individuals. It will continue to follow national policies and guidelines to ensure that safeguarding procedures are rigorously implemented." The diocese said that in relation to Fr Marshall's future "as per national policy, the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service will undertake an independent review of all the information that the diocese holds and will make recommendations in due course".
