Aron Kestecher of East St Kilda has been released on bail and will appear in Moorabin magistrates Court at the end of next month.
Victorian police have written to former Yeshivah College students asking for assistance in an investigation into sexual abuse at the college between 1989 and 1993.
Yeshiva College security guard David Cyprys has been arrested as a result of that investigation.
"The Age" reported that a police witness told a court hearing the Cyprys case that members of the Yeshiva community lied to the police and tried to cover up sex abuse claims adding that "they failed to act in any way to protect children.
J-Wire has reported that Yeshiva head Rabbi Yehoshua Shmukler had written to his community advising them to contact the public authorities if they were aware of any sex abuse incidents.
The Jewish Community Council of Victoria's president John Searle told J-Wire: " It would be regrettable if the Yeshiva leaders gave advice in the public arena and offered other advice privately. There is only one proper course of action to take. Any allegations should be reported to the appropriate authorities so that they can be properly investigated. To do otherwise would be to deny justice to the victims and afford a degree of protection to the assailants thereby endangering the safety of the children."
