One chapter of the Cloyne Report was redacted before it was published earlier this year

The High Court has ruled that blacked out parts of the report into the abuse cannot be published until 16 December at the earliest.

The redactions were ordered after the High Court was told the publication of the full chapter could prejudice ongoing criminal proceedings.

This morning, the High Court President, Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns said he had received an application from lawyers for the Minister for Justice to continue the period for which the redactions should take effect until 16 December.

Meanwhile the administrator of the Diocese of Cloyne has said the priests of the diocese feel badly let down by the handling of clerical child sexual abuse cases by Bishop John Magee and other senior clergy.

This afternoon Archbishop Dermot Clifford, who has been administering the diocese since Bishop Magee stood down, issued a statement on a meeting of diocesan clergy which he convened last Tuesday to discuss July's damning Cloyne Report.

He says that anger and outrage at the handling of the abuse cases were among the feelings expressed by the eighty or so clergy who attended and that they expressed great sympathy for the survivors who had been so badly hurt by a minority of their colleagues.

He adds that they felt badly let down by the handling of cases by Bishop John Magee and other senior clergy.
