	Judges Order Accused Priest's Name Released, SNAP Responds By David Clohessy Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests September 21, 2011 http://www.snapnetwork.org/judges_order_accused_priest_s_name_released_snap_responds_092111 Oregon's 9th US Circuit Court has issued a mixed opinion in a case involving two accused pedophile priests. One of the clerics' names will be publicly released, the other one's identity will not be kept secret. Kids are safer every time such a disclosure is made. We're also glad that more information about the Catholic employees who ignored and concealed heinous child sex crimes will be release. However, we're disappointed Fr. D's name will be kept hidden. It's dangerous to assume that a credibly accused child predator is somehow automatically less dangerous because he's retired or older. We're not lawyers but we believe that Portland's Catholic officials still have the ability, and the duty, to disclose Fr. D's name. Until the church hierarchy honors its pledges of "openness" in clergy sex cases, we urge Oregon Catholics to be especially diligent about child protection.
