Robert Meredith, 50, of Hazel, pastor of Green Plain Church of Christ, has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 years. He was scheduled to appear before Judge Dennis Foust on the charge. Meredith was arrested by Kentucky State Police in August following a complaint from parents of the alleged juvenile victim. KSP Trooper Dean Patterson, spokesman for KSP Post 1 in Mayfield, said the parents of the child reported to police that the allegded abuse took place at a childrens’ sleepover at a private residence where other adults and children were present. Following an appearance in Calloway District Court, Meredith was initially lodged in the Calloway County Jail under a $10,000 cash bond. First-degree sexual abuse is a Class C felony which carries a possible penalty of 5-10 years in prison. Individuals facing charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
