Thousands of St. Ignatius High School alumni and current students have been notified of abuse allegations that happened in the 1950’s. School President, Reverend William Murphy sent out letters this week. He said every report of abuse has been forwarded to the Director of Victim Advocacy.

Reverend Murphy said he was told about alleged abuse a few weeks ago when he received a letter from an alum during the 1950s. Murphy stated he was "deeply troubled by his letter and reached out to him to apologize for what he suffered.”

In a letter to students and alumni, Reverend Murphy also said he reached out to several people who shared the memories of sexual abuse.

Currently, St. Ignatius has a number of steps in place to protect students from similar situations. School policy is that any school representative who knows or suspects that a student has been abused, they must immediately tell authorities. The policy has been in place for nine years. If a report was found credible, St. Ignatius would suspend the faculty member until an investigation is over.
