Man Faces Charges of Sex Abuse By Brian Englar The News-Post August 17, 2011 http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/news/display.htm?StoryID=124947 A Frederick man has been charged with having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl from his church. Christopher John Wilson, 23, is charged with sex abuse of a minor and second- and third-degree sex offenses. He was arrested Saturday by a detective from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office after providing a written statement. The detective was called early Saturday to Progressive Church on Grove Road in Frederick, where he was met by Pastor Detrick Edwards. In an interview Tuesday, Edwards told The Frederick News-Post he called Wilson to the church to speak to him about rumors he had heard. After speaking with Wilson, Edwards said he called the sheriff's office and persuaded Wilson to talk with deputies. "I felt like I was duty-bound," said Edwards, who said Wilson is "like a son" to him and has stayed at his house on a number of occasions. According to charging documents filed in Frederick County District Court, the girl told investigators that she and Wilson had sexual intercourse twice at his house on Aug. 8 when she was there for a guitar lesson. She said that she asked Wilson to stop on both occasions but he refused and at one point held her down. Wilson denied continuing after the girl told him to stop, as well as holding her down, the documents state. According to the documents, Wilson had pictures on his cellphone of the girl in which she was partially dressed. Wilson told the girl he could build her modeling portfolio and took the pictures during a photo shoot at his house. Edwards said he has addressed his congregation about the case. As a result, he said a number of members have approached him to talk about their experiences with sexual abuse. "It has absolutely affected the whole church," Edwards said. "It has spawned this healing process." Wilson was being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to court records. He did not have a lawyer as of late Tuesday afternoon. |
