BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A local priest is under investigation following allegations of sexual abuse.
Father John Mendicoa, a vicar at Sacred Heart Parish in Roslindale has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately.
Mendicoa is being investigated for sexually abusing a child back in the 1980s.
Parishioners, who were told of the matter during Sunday services, were stunned. They said he's a good man who is actively involved in the church community.
Archbishop Sean O'Malley released the following statement about the allegations:
"My prayers and concern are with all people who are impacted by this matter. I remain committed to doing everything possible to protect our children, while at the same time furthering the healing process and rebuilding trust."
