	Judge Denies Bail in Child Sex Abuse Case By Daryl Slade Calgary Herald August 5, 2011 http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/Judge+denies+bail+child+abuse+case/5209979/story.html A judge has refused bail to a 35-year-old former church youth volunteer facing 30 criminal charges for child pornography and sexually abusing 10 young boys over a five-year period. Provincial court Judge Cheryl Daniel concluded after hearing arguments by Crown prosecutor Tess Jones and defence lawyer Rebecca Snukal that Roderick Kyle Janssen should remain behind bars until his trial. Evidence given at the hearing and the judge's reasons for her decision cannot be published because of a court-ordered ban. Janssen, who volunteered with First Assembly Church, is accused of sexually assaulting three boys and sexually interfering with seven other boys between 2006 and February 2011. As well, he faces three charges each of inviting sexual touching and voyeurism. All of the boys are from the Calgary area and are between the ages of eight and 12 years. Many were identified during the investigation, which resulted in the material being seized from the accused man's home computer. Janssen faces a total of 14 charges related to a collection of thousands of images and videos of child pornography: 11 counts of making child porn, and one count each of distributing or selling, possessing and accessing the illicit material. Police said the offences are alleged to have taken place when he was left alone with the children, but police have said there is no evidence to suggest they took place at the church. A half-dozen women, at least some of whom are mothers of the victims, refused to comment outside court after the hearing. Janssen was initially charged in April with four counts related to child pornography. Since then, they had laid 26 more charges. He is also accused of sending child pornography images to an undercover FBI agent. A spokesman with the First Assembly Church in Calgary previously confirmed that Janssen had volunteered with its youth group. Janssen will be back in court on Aug. 15.
