Cederick McMillian, 26, faces sex abuse charges after being indicted by a Mobile County grand jury.

Local pastor Cederick McMillian faces sexual abuse charges after he was indicted by a Mobile County grand jury, according to jail records.

McMillian, 26, of Eight Mile, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sodomy, according to jail records. McMillian turned himself in at Metro Jail shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, records showed. He was released about 3 hours later with a total bail set at $25,000, records show.

“These charges are in relation to a female victim known to him and he is a local minister,” said Ashley Rains, spokeswoman for the Mobile Police Department.

McMillian is pastor of New Birth Community Church in Mobile. He was instrumental in the founding of Prichard Preparatory Academy in Prichard.

McMillian served as the school's headmaster from 2005 until Sept. 30, 2009, said Rosalie Howley, the school’s principal.

Howley said that the McMillian does not serve in any official capacity at the school.
