	The Vatican Needs to Take Zero Tolerance to Heart By Mike Bryant Injury Board July 19, 2011 http://stcloud.injuryboard.com/property-owners-liability-slip-and-fall/the-vatican-needs-to-take-zero-tolerance-to-heart.aspx?googleid=291906 There is a lot of news about the Vatican concerning what is being done to eliminate pedophiles and provide justice to those who have been harmed. At times members of the Church hierarchy seem to be saying the right things, but at other times it seems to just be more false promises from the church leadership. There was a very disturbing story concerning tapes that seemed to be 51-year-old Father Riccardo Seppia, a priest in the archdiocese of Genoa Archbishop Angelo Bagnasco, who is the head of the Italian Bishops Conference. That's the group who is working on church reforms. The tapes have the priest allegedly saying: "I do not want 16-year-old boys but younger,........." "Fourteen-year-olds are O.K. Look for needy boys who have family issues." The US Bishop Conference produced a report in May. The report was touted as an explanation of why these horrible incidents happened. They concluded that it was poor training and was a product of the times. Which makes you wonder why did it go on past the 60s and 70s and is in fact still going on today. Did they really need training to not harm innocent children? No they needed training on how to respond. They needed to use the zero tolerance doctrine to shine light one what happened and to insure that it would never happen again. They needed to not move priests around and to quit putting them in situations that allowed great access to kids. They needed to stop hiding. Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
