THE OFFICIAL REPORT into clerical sexual abuse in the Catholic diocese of Cloyne is to be published tomorrow after being cleared by the Cabinet today.

The Murphy Commission, which was investigating abuse in Cloyne as well as in the Archdiocese of Dublin, submitted its report to the government before Christmas.

The reported is expected to extend to over 400 pages and is to investigate complaints against 19 priests over a 13-year period between 1996 and 2009.

The Irish Independent quoted a cabinet source who said a time slot was being cleared for victims of the abuse to read the report before its publication.

Yesterday the Bishop of the neighbouring Diocese of Cork and Ross, Dr John Buckley, said he believed the Catholic Church had learned how to deal properly with allegations of clerical sx abuse.

RTE quoted Buckley as saying his own diocese had responded to all allegations raised there, and that the Church’s network of child protection volunteers

A previous report into sexual abuse in the diocese, published by the HSE in 2009, criticised then-Bishop John Magee for his failure to handle the allegations.

Magee resigned his seat over the affair in March of last year.
