Chorley ‘sexual Liaisons’ Priest Quits Chorley Citizen July 5, 2011 http://www.chorleycitizen.co.uk/news/9122298.Chorley____sexual_liaisons____priest_quits/ A CHORLEY priest who presided over a village church for 25 years has resigned after admitting inappropriate ‘sexual liaisons’. Parishioners were told at the weekend that the Rev David Morgan, 68, clergyman for St Paul’s Church, Railway Road, Adlington, had left his position. In a statement, the Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Nicholas Reade, said: “The Reverend David Morgan has admitted having past sexual liaisons which are contrary to the behaviour expected of priests within the Church of England and he has accepted a rebuke. He has now signed a Deed of Resignation which will be effective from June 30.” An investigation into Mr Morgan’s behaviour had been conducted by the diocese in the weeks before his resignation. There is no suggestion he has broken the law, and police confirmed he is not under investigation. It is understood that Mr Morgan has broken all ties with Adlington St Paul’s and has left the area. After leaving Leeds University in 1968, Mr Morgan presided over churches in Swinton and Salford, before being appointed to St Paul’s in 1986. |
