Parishioners were told at the weekend that Reverend David Morgan, 68, clergyman for St Paul’s Church, Railway Road, Adlington had left his position. In a statement, the Bishop of Blackburn, Rt Rev Nicholas Reade, said: “The Reverend David Morgan has admitted having past sexual liaisons which are contrary to the behaviour expected of priests within the Church of England and he has accepted a rebuke. “He has now signed a Deed of Resignation which will effective form June 30.” An investigation into Rev Morgan’s behaviour had been conducted by the diocese in the weeks before his resignation. There is no suggestion that he has broken the law and police confirmed he is not under investigation. It is understood that Rev Morgan has broken all ties with the Adlington St Paul’s and has left the area. After leaving Leeds University Rev Morgan presided over churches in Swinton and Salford before being appointed to St Paul’s in 1986.
