Long's Message at Service Doesn't Mention Settlement By Shelia M. Poole Atlanta Journal-Constitution May 30, 2011 http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/longs-message-at-service-961580.html Bishop Eddie Long, in his first Sunday service at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church since the settlement of four lawsuits was announced, focused on celebrating life and reminded the congregation of the good God has done in their lives. The Lithonia pastor didn't mention his recent troubles. However, he said has learned to make sure he surrounds himself with the right crowd. There were many empty seats at the 8 a.m. service, but that may have been because it was a holiday weekend. When he came into the pulpit Long, who was sued by four men who alleged he coerced them into having sexual relations, was greeted with applause. He told people to remain faithful in their giving even if they aren't in church or on vacation. The lawsuits were dismissed last week and terms of the settlement will remain confidential . Long mentioned he had recently spent a couple of days with Bishop Neil C. Ellis, but he didn't say whether it was in Atlanta or in the Bahamas, where Ellis has a popular ministry. |
