Finn Says “mistakes” - SNAP Responds SNAP May 27, 2011 http://www.snapnetwork.org/snap_statements/2011_statements/052711_finn_says_mistakes_snap_responds.htm Statement by Mike Hunter of Kansas City, president of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (913 634 6490, mhunter_mp@accessus.net, mhunter_mp@sbcglobal.net) Bishops are smart, well-educated men who have tons of resources, lawyers and public relations professionals. They aren’t stupid about abuse. They know what they’re doing. Finn can’t claim this was a “mistake.” It wasn’t. It was a series of deliberate actions over more than a year to hide potential crimes from the people who needed and deserved to know about those crimes: police, prosectors, parishioners and the public. We hope parishioners and the public will come next Thursday to our open meeting to discuss this awful case and get support, consolation and guidance. It will be Thursday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at the Kansas City North Community Center, 3930 N.E. Antioch Road. People need and deserve to learn more about these troubling situation especially from more objective sources than Finn. (SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 23 years and have more than 10,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers.
